SeccoMix R – dry running seal for process engineering machines
Dry-running mechanical seals under moderate operating conditions are becoming increasingly popular in the process industry due to their robustness and ease of maintenance. With the SeccoMix R, EagleBurgmann has developed a dry-running double seal that is predestined for the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries.
The seal is suitable for all process engineering machines such as agitators, reactors, mixers, kneaders, mills or dryers and can be installed at the top, side and bottom entry. The compact cartridge design makes it very easy to install.
Easy supply with barrier medium
The SeccoMix R is buffered with nitrogen. Pressurization with approx. 2 bar (29 PSI) relative to the product pressure ensures that the product does not penetrate into the seal chamber and consequently does not reach the atmosphere. Unlike fluid barrier media, there is no product contamination.
The advantage of gas supply over fluid supply is the uncomplicated ground-level installation of the gas supply system in conjunction with a permanent nitrogen connection. Supply systems for liquid-lubricated seals, on the other hand, usually have to be mounted in an elevated position in order to sustain the Thermosiphon effect. With the SeccoMix R there is no need to check and regularly refill the container and thus no need to work at height. In addition, gas consumption is very low compared to other gas-lubricated, non-contact mechanical seals.
Meets high hygiene requirements
CIP/SIP capability is standard and several design features meet high hygienic requirements. On the one hand, the solid seat rotating in the product allows for efficient flow around the seal in the product chamber, making it easy to clean. On the other hand, care was taken to ensure a design with small dead space and a perfect surface quality in terms of hygiene. Materials that meet the requirements of FDA or USP Class VI are also available.
The seal can be used for steel vessels as well as for glass-lined vessels. A metal-free version on the product side is available.
Quickly customizable
Pressures from vacuum up to 6 bar (87 PSI), sliding velocities up to 2 m/s (6.5 ft/s) and temperatures up to 200 °C (392 °F) are possible. At higher temperatures, an optional cooling flange reduces the temperature at the seal. In addition, the SeccoMix R is prepared for use in ATEX areas.
The seal can be adapted quickly and easily to specific installation spaces, as the seal concept features a modular design with regard to materials and face materials. Versions with and without bearings are also available.
